For A Good Cause

Our local minor league hockey team is holding it’s fifth annual “Thunder Goes Pink” this weekend to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Each year the arena changes the ice from white to pink for the games being played, and the Stockton players wear special jerseys that have pink accents on them. At the end of the series an auction is held to sell those jerseys to help raise money for the cause. The event is always very popular and gets the highest attendance of the season. Last night there were over 9,000 people attending the game.

Along with the jersey auction the team holds a silent auction with various items up for bid. The usual signed pucks and sticks are always available, as well as unique items such as dinner with your favorite player, golf with the team, etc. There’s always something for everyone.

This season there was a special item that attracted a lot of attention. Carrie Underwood performed one of her concerts at the arena back in October and signed one of the special jerseys for the silent auction. There were a lot of people interested in the jersey, including the team’s owner. As luck would have it I got the jersey. I probably paid more than I should have for it, but it’s a fun souvenir and it’s for a good cause.
