In The Movies

Last night we went over to Oakland to participate in the filming of a new Brad Pitt movie called “Money Ball”. We were invited to sign up to be one of a few hundred people that would fill in seats at the Oakland Coliseum while filming took place.

The movie is based on the best selling book by the same name. It’s about Billy Beane, the General Manager of the Oakland A’s. He put together a team in the early 2000’s with the smallest payroll in Major League Baseball, and yet they went on to win 103 games and win their Division during the 2002 season. During that season they put together a 20 game winning streak.

The filming last night detailed the highlights of the game where the A’s earned their 20th consecutive victory. It was a wild game and being part of it’s recreation was a lot of fun. We were all told to sit in various sections moving as a group every once in a while depending on the camera angles needed to get the shots. At times we had to cheer loudly, while at other times we needed to act out our celebrations without any noise. There was also a lot of time spent just sitting in our seats without much going on. I think they used those times to film the crowd acting naturally. Whenever we were told the cameras were rolling a lot of people tended to over act so the quiet time would be a good time to catch people just being themselves.

We had a lot of fun, but we’re wiped out. We arrived at the ballpark at 9:45pm and got back home around 7:00am. They’re going to be filming for another week or so, but this was our only opportunity to be a part of the production. When the movie comes out, pay close attention to the crowd during the 7th and 8th innings of the 20th consecutive victory. Maybe you’ll see us!
